Wordpress spam

Filed under: General, Links — Dimitris Giannitsaros @ 16:48

Comment spam has increased lately on this blog. I had enabled the comment moderation word list but this has two problems:

a) Some comments still get through
b) All comments who fail to pass must then be moderated by me

I looked for good plugins and Hashcash seems the best solution. The only problem is that wp-plugins.org is down right now…

  1. I have not tried it, but AuthImage could be a solution.

  2. Since I installed auto shutoff I haven’t had any spam and it’s been about 4 months.

As long as you can live with comments being closed on older posts, it’s great.

  3. Unfortunately AuthImage uses Captcha, which I dislike. HashCash is transparent for the user (but requires javascript which spam bots don’t have)

  4. Ian,

I thought I had seen HashCash praised by you! Is it not good enough after all?

I don’t understand why closing the comments works. I just had some spam on relatively new articles…?
